The Tiverton Wastewater District (TWWD) is seeking applicants for a Wastewater System Superintendent (WSS).

The primary Job responsibility of the Wastewater System Superintendent is to facilitate the safe and efficient operation of the wastewater collection system to the benefit of the Tiverton Wastewater District and its customers. TWWD’s wastewater is treated at the Fall River, MA facility located on Bay Street in Fall River. The incumbent will lead the operation, inspection, maintenance and repair for TWWD’s wastewater collection system, including gravity sewer, force mains, manholes, lift stations, generators, and the instrumentation and controls. This is a part-time position with flexible hours.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

The WSS will oversee an outside contractor performing service work on TWWD sewer infrastructure in the field. This will include supervising the operation, inspection, maintenance and repair of lift stations, instrumentation & control systems, emergency generators, manholes, mains, and equipment.

Specific tasks include:

  • Routine observation of collection system maintenance (i.e. monthly grease trap pump-outs, cleaning of wet wells, etc.)
  • Perform inspections of tie-ins to the collection system.
  • Oversee Closed Caption Television (CCTV) assessments of underground assets to evaluate condition.
  • Work with/oversee outside engineers in the preparation of plans and specifications for new sewers and lift stations.
  • Oversee inspection of sewer construction activities, including ensuring all permits and easements are obtained and adhered to.
  • Coordinate with staff that oversee the Wastewater Treatment Plant in Fall River, MA.

Other Duties include:

  • Assist the District Engineer (DE) when necessary, during the design phase of any TWWD construction activities.
  • Review drawings for proposed sewer system expansion projects and provide comment to District Engineer.
  • Prepare as-built drawings for individual service connections.
  • Evaluate the data on wastewater pumping versus storm events collected by the District’s SCADA system to assess where Inflow and Infiltration (I/I) may be occurring in the collection system.
  • Coordinate activities with other local utilities North Tiverton Fire District Water Department, and Stonebridge Fire District Water Department (NTWD & SBWD) in relation to underground utility construction.
  • Respond to emergency situations. (24/7/365) to coordinate services by outside contractors.
  • Respond to requests for mark-out of TWWD underground assets.
  • Respond to customer issues with sewer connections or TWWD owned infrastructure including on-site inspections.
  • Oversee water shutoffs for delinquent accounts on an as-needed basis.
  • Write reports summarizing inspections, system deficiencies, system needs, and other issues and report to the Board of Directors.
  • Make recommendations regarding budget, maintenance and capital plans.
  • Perform routine checks of infrastructure to document operational status and maintenance requirements.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have knowledge of wastewater collection system operation and maintenance principles.
  • Must have knowledge of wastewater pumping stations and forced main sanitary sewer operation and maintenance.
  • Clean driving record, CDL Class A not required
  • BS in Civil or Environmental Engineering preferred
  • Work authorization in the United States (Required)

TWWD offers a flexible, part-time schedule (up to 24 hours per week).

Schedule will include time within weekday hours 7:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Subject to approval by the Executive Director, the Wastewater Superintendent will be able to create a regular schedule apart from emergency situations.

In office/in the field and work from home hybrid is available.

457B Deferred Compensation plus company match.

Four part-time weeks (24 hours) paid time off begin accruing after 90 days of employment.

$50 per month cell phone reimbursement.

Paid mileage (company car not available).

12 paid holidays.

 

Job Type: Part-time

Salary:  $30 to $40 per hour, depending on qualifications and relevant work experience.
